Texas Turnout February 2023 Update

Texas Turnout February 2023 Update

Greetings from your friends at Texas Turnout!

As we kickstart our 2023 efforts, we want to catch you up to speed on who we are, where we’re headed, and how you can help us get there.

Texas Turnout is a voter engagement and outreach coalition of nonprofits established to increase youth voter turnout in the Rio Grande Valley. We’re a much needed year-round, culturally relevant, peer-to-peer civic engagement operation that removes every obstacle between an eligible young voter and the ballot box.

Did you know…

  • Over 270,000 young Texans of color turn 18 each year
  • Only 15% of them cast a ballot in the 2022 midterms
  • Texas Turnout focuses on would-be voters 18-24 years of age in under-resourced communities

In 2022, with your generous support, Texas Turnout was able to INCREASE voter turnout BY 30% in our targeted group!

In 2022 we registered over 2,800 voters and collected 6,245 Pledges to vote

OUR 2023 Goals

– Register 5,000 youth voters

– Collect 10,000 pledges to vote

– Conduct 100 student civic engagement presentations

In order to achieve these goals, we’ve expanded our Texas Turnout organizer team!

Abby (they/she): Regional Field Coordinator

“I love my community. There is no place more special than the Rio Grande Valley. Youth voter engagement is just one of many ways that we can support our community.”

Javier (he/him/his): Social Media Intern

“I’m excited to begin my work with Texas Turnout in the RGV because I believe there is a big dormant portion of youth from the Rio Grande Valley who are not engaged with local, state, or national politics due to how complex, and often out of reach, this strange world of voting can seem to be.”

Clarissa (she/her/hers): Community Field Organizer

“I believe the youth are the future, and will bring positive change in our communities.”

Edith (she/her/hers): Community Field Organizer

“Working with Texas Turnout signifies a tremendous opportunity for more RGV youth to contribute to democracy, make their voices heard, and have an influence on the issues that impact them and their communities.”

Marina (she/her/hers): Community Field Organizer

“I love being able to share free resources, as well as informing them about their impact when they get involved in their community.”

Cesar (he/him): Community Field Organizer

“I am excited to participate in Texas Turnouts’ youth voter engagement mission throughout our Cameron/Hidalgo Counties and remind our communities about the importance of our shared civic participation.”
